Lieutenant General (Retired) Robert D. Chelberg

General Chelberg graduated from the United States Military
Academy at West Point, New York, with a Bachelor of Science
degree in 1961. Later in his military career he earned a Masters
of Business Administration degree from New Mexico State
University. He was named the 1986 Outstanding Alumnus of
Lake Superior State University, and he was presented the
Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 1990. In 2001, he was
inducted into the New Mexico State University Business
School Hall of Fame.
During his 32 year military service and five year civilian service to our country, General Chelberg spent almost 17 years working either directly or indirectly for NATO. For his service, he received numerous awards and decorations including two of our countriy’s highest peacetime awards. Additionally, he serves as a Senior Advisor to the Economic Development Partnership of Aiken and Edgefield Counties in South Carolina, as well as a Senior Fellow at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. In January 2003, General Chelberg accepted the position of Program Manager for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Field Office located in Belgium where he was involved in issues regarding weapons of mass destruction and consequence management.
In March 2006, he returned to Aiken, South Carolina, where he was a past board member for the Hitchcock Woods Foundation. General Chelberg currently serves on the board for the SPCA of Aiken, and is impressed with the strategic vision, leadership and organization of the board. He looks forward to leading a successful capital campaign to turn the board’s vision into a reality. General Chelberg is married, and his wife, Kareen, was a former board member for the SPCA of Aiken.
